A Classic Addon Available for Download for a Limited Time
Over the years, some of our products have become legacy due to the constant evolution of the simulation platforms or because they are being replaced by better, up-to-date products with much more features. By popular demand and for a limited time, we are now please to offer these products a very special price.
Please note that the X-15-1 v1 addon is a legacy product for which we can no longer offer technical support. It is offered to collectors as is. For an upgraded X-15 experience, please consider our X-15A-2 SE v2.0 for Prepar3D®, FSX and FSX Steam®.
The World’s Fastest Aircraft!
The legendary North American X-15 was a single-place research airplane designed to obtain data on flight at extremely high altitudes and speeds. Three X-15 aircraft were built to demonstrate the ability of pilots to fly rocket-powered airplanes out of the earth’s atmosphere and back to precision landing.
The X-15A-2 (AF56-6671) was a modified version of the X-15-2 rocket plane, specifically designed to allow longer engine burn times and to attain hypersonic velocities in the range of 8000 feet per second at an altitude of 100,000 feet. The main modification was the addition of two large aluminum external propellant tanks which can be jettisoned and reused. The added propellant permits a longer engine run which results in added velocity.
After the X-15-2 aircraft was damaged in 1962, it was rebuilt as the “advanced” X-15A-2 and was delivered in February 1964. In October 1967, Air Force Pilot Pete Knight took the X-15A-2 to Mach 6.7 (4,520 mph), the fastest manned aircraft flight recorded to date (if we exclude Space Shuttle flights). The X-15A-2 completed 22 flights between June 1964 and October 1967.
The Xtreme Prototypes X-15A-2 v1 addon contains three variations of the X-15A-2 with external propellant tanks and the mighty XLR-99 rocket engine.
The exterior models feature more than 300 parts and 60 animations. The two fully functional 2D panels contain over 180 custom gauges and systems (all rocket aircraft systems present in the real X-15A-2 are simulated). A custom X-15 flight model has been designed to simulate rocket powered high-speed and high-altitude flight in the simulator.
This addon will allow X-15 fans to fly at altitudes of over 300,000 feet (in FSX) at more than four times the speed of sound (or the maximum speed that can be attained in the simulator) and to simulate almost every step and procedure required in a typical X-15 research mission.
